Description: In 1918, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, the Armistice was signed to end “The War to End All Wars”, “The Great War”. Unfortunately, the end of World War 1 was not the end to struggles though out the world, but it was a turning point for music and pop culture in America. Come and join the Chesapeake Choral Arts Society as we commemorate the End of the Great War and explore what music and culture were like before the war, during the war and after the war. We will present old favorites from the happy days before the war – “Shine On, Harvest Moon”, “Paddlin’ Madeline Home” and “By the Light of the Silvery Moon”. And we’ll showcase some of the music that told of the yearning for home by the soldiers – “Keep the Home Fires Burning” and “There’s a Long, Long Trail”. Patriotic songs like “Over There” to rally the troops and anti-war songs including the mother’s lament “I Didn’t Raise My Boy to Be a Soldier” will round out the war years. After the war, people wanted to forget the horrors of war and in came the “Pop” songs of the 20’s. “Jeepers Creepers”, “Yes, We Have No Bananas” and “Where Did Robinson Crusoe Go with Friday on Saturday Night” were all the rage in the Roaring 20’s. This will be a multi-media production with photos, reading of letters from home, pictures of the era and if you don’t watch out, maybe a little “education”! Concerts will be held at the Port Tobacco Players Theater (508 Charles St., La Plata, MD) on Saturday, April 14th at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 15th at 3:30pm. Tickets can be purchased on line at Click on the poster of the concert and it will take you to the area to purchase tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door on the days of the concerts. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, and $12 for students, seniors, and military. Hope to see you “Over There”!
